What To Do If You Have A Problem
The General Rule: Consult Us As Soon As Possible!>
- Where possible, try to anticipate and consult us in advance!
- If you are preparing a case for assessment, we can assist you to prepare. This can prevent problems that arise because of submissions that do not set out your case in a clear and convincing manner.
- If you are considering any sort of communication with anyone concerning your terms and conditions of employment, you should get advice in advance.
- Call us immediately (even before the problem develops)!
- Read your Collective Agreement
- Consult us before responding!
The sooner AUNBT is aware of the problem, the better. We have experienced Grievance officers to assist you, supported by a legal staff on retainer. Many problems can be avoided altogether or resolved relatively easily if action is taken quickly. Problems that are left to fester can become difficult.
It is important to know your responsibilities and rights, and to understand the process of filing a grievance.
In particular, action on a potential grievance must be taken expeditiously because the Collective Agreement specifies certain time limits for grievances.
If you receive any kind of verbal or written communication on any topic concerning your terms and conditions of employment, consult us before you respond.
In particular, this includes such matters as disciplinary letters, verbal reprimands, requests for clarification of assessment materials and tentative negative assessments.
